You have just landed at Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL). You are tired, you have luggage, and you just want to get to your hotel.
As you walk out of customs, you will be bombarded with orange signs and sleek advertisements for the Flytoget (Airport Express Train).
Don't buy a ticket just yet. There is another train on the exact same track that takes the same time, but costs half the price.
Here is the complete breakdown of how to get from the airport to Oslo, ranked from "Smartest" to "Most Expensive"
Vy - Regional Trains
This is what many locals use. The Vy trains are the regular public commuter trains. They run on the same high-speed tracks as the Airport Express train.
How to buy a ticket
- Do not use the orange "Flytoget" machines. Look for the green "Vy" or "Entur" machines.
- Download the Vy app. You can buy the ticket on your phone while walking to the platform.
Route Numbers: Look for lines R12, RE10, or RE11.
Flytoget (Airport Express Train)
Flytoget is the Airport Express train. It departs from the same station as Vy but uses different platforms and takes the same amount of time.
Normally you should skip it, but there are some exceptions:
Flybussen (Airport Bus)
The train ends at the Central Station. If your hotel is on the other side of town, you still have to take a taxi or connect with Metro, tram or buses. Flybussen takes longer but drops you right outside some hotels.
Major Routes
- Line FB5 (City Center): Stops near Radisson Blu Scandinavia, Hotel Bristol, and Grand Hotel.
- Line FB1 (Majorstuen): Best if you are staying in the West End (Frogner/Majorstuen).
- Line FB3 (Radiumhospitalet): Covers the ring road and northern suburbs.
Check with their information counter if they have a stop near your hotel.
Taxi
How to take a taxi safely:
- Never take a taxi from the street queue without a booking.
- Use the Booking Machine: Inside the terminal (Arrivals Hall), there is a taxi booking machine. Enter your destination and it will show you fixed prices from different companies.
- Pick a Reputable Company: Look for Oslo Taxi or Norgestaxi. A standard fixed price to the city center should be between 800–1100 NOK.
Uber/Bolt
Uber and Bolt are often cheaper than regular taxis (usually around 700–900 NOK, depending on surge pricing).
Pickup Point: They cannot pick you up at the regular taxi stand. You usually have to meet them at the Departures Level (upstairs) or the short-term parking garage. Check the app carefully for the pickup location instructions.
