Thon Vika Atrium

You're three minutes on foot from Oslo's upscale waterfront area, packed with shops and restaurants.

Three minutes to Aker Brygge. Eight minutes to the Nationaltheatret train station, which connects directly to the airport. A bus stop right outside.

The building wraps rooms around a central atrium. Rooms facing the interior get their light from the atrium. They're dim. Ask for an exterior-facing room when you book, or you'll spend the day in a cave with a fridge and a Chromecast. Standard rooms run about 16 square meters, this is tiny even for Oslo standards. Two people with suitcases will be doing a shuffle dance around the bed.

The breakfast in the Holmen restaurant is outstanding. Big spread, good quality, proper hot options. Free coffee and tea in the lobby around the clock.

The staff are sharp and helpful. The neighborhood is upscale waterfront, restaurants everywhere, quiet enough at night if you're set back from the main drag.

Ask explicitly for an exterior-facing room. Atrium-facing rooms are dark and depressing.

Neighbourhood vibe

Upscale waterfront territory. Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen are right there with restaurants and bars, but the hotel sits just far enough back on a side street to dodge the late-night noise.

A restored 1930s power station with original Art Deco tilework, a rooftop pool overlooking the city, and seven restaurants under one roof. There's nothing else in Oslo like this. If you want a hotel that makes you cancel your afternoon plans because you'd rather stay in, this is it.

125 years old. Rooms are individually decorated with hand-picked art, and the lobby bar, Bar Boman, houses one of the country's largest private collections of Edvard Munch prints. But the real draw is Theatercaféen, the grand Viennese-style restaurant on the ground floor, with its high ceilings and mirrored walls. It's been the place in Oslo where actors, politicians, and locals meet for over a century. Nationaltheateret station is 100 metres from the front door.
