Comfort Hotel Børsparken

Three minutes from Oslo Central Station with one of the best hotel gyms in the country.

Three minutes from Oslo Central Station. Step off the Flytoget airport express and you're practically at the front door. The Opera House and Munch Museum are a short walk away. Kvadraturen, the neighborhood, is Oslo's oldest district, gritty and central, not scenic.

The rooms are seriously small, starting at 8 sqm. Don´t bring much luggage here. Half the rooms don't even have a desk. Bathrooms are tight, with narrow shower stalls where elbows meet walls. No kettle, no coffee maker, no mini-fridge. Morning coffee means a trip down to the lobby "barception," which doubles as the front desk and bar, open around the clock.

The gym is a serious surprise. A full CrossFit-style facility covering the entire lower floor, not the usual sad treadmill and a broken elliptical. The trade-off: weights hit the floor starting early morning, and the vibrations travel upward. Rooms on the 2nd floor get the worst of it. Ask for the 4th floor or higher.

There's a communal terrace on the 8th floor with views toward the fjord and the Opera House. Good spot for a quiet moment. Check-in is mostly self-service kiosks, so don't expect a warm welcome. The breakfast buffet is solid, with organic options and fresh bread. For Oslo prices, the value equation works, if you can live with the tight quarters.

Ask for a room on the 4th floor or higher. The CrossFit gym is below, and the sound of dropped weights carries up through the lower floors starting at 7 AM.

Kvadraturen is central and functional, not pretty. You're surrounded by transit options, the cathedral, and Akershus Fortress, but the streets themselves are more urban grid than postcard.
